BCM50 migration pains from XO to Broadvox SIP trunks

In an effort to reduce the phone bill for a small 10 employee single office, I took up the challenge of migrating our Nortel BCM50v3 pbx from XO Flex-T1 service to Broadvox SIP trunk services over our fiber data WAN link. XO had the PRI out of the BCM50 connected into a Cisco IAD 2400, that they admin, converting PRI traffic over to their version of SIP trunking. SIP licenses on the BCM50 wont work with Broadvox, and the Cisco IAD doesn't belong to me, so we now cable the PRI into a Patton 4940 SIP Gateway and connect the ethernet port with a static routable IP directly onto our WAN switch outside of our firewall. After working with excellent 2nd tier tech support both at Patton and Braodvox to get the configuration right, we have been able to enjoy solid inbound and outbound with no degradation in call quality reported yet by my users.

Our phone bill with LD went from $550 to $90 but the Patton cap ex was 1,300 USD, easily made up in a few months.

However, a few features of the BCM50 behave differently now:

1) calling out local (we are in the Cleveland, Ohio 216 area code) used to work with 7 digit, now 10 digit required. Daily irritant for my boss that he would like fixed. How do I prepend 216 to 7 digit outgoing calls?

2) Incoming Caller ID sometimes presents 7 digit numbers, sometimes 10 digit, but no alpha characters. We were used to getting Alpha with XO.

3) Outgoing Caller ID shows us as "Unknown". Used to show "Current Concept" no matter what extension dialed out. Setting business name does not effect this.

I am new to admin the BCM50 and have read a fair bit about using Business Elements to do so, but I am at loss where in the BCM to fix these three issues aftering banging on it for three days now! I am looking for some tips or at least the right jargon to use for keyword searches.

Thanks in advance,

That's why you should sign up for VOIP.MS. I once used Broadvox on my BCM50.6.0 and it was worthless. They couldn't do a simple NAT translation.

VOIP.MS is remarkably less expensive.

You could potentially fix the 7 digit dialing through outbound routes - if you don't have too many NXX's in your area and they don't conflict with your extension numbers, or if you use 9 to dial out.

Just add destination codes NXX or 9NXX and point to a route that inserts your NPA.
