I have a BCM 50 rls 1 system that has a hard drive failure. I have a BCM50e rls 1 as a spare and tried swapping the hard drive into the BCM50 system and it comes up but the system ID does not show up and of course will not take the keycodes. Is the BCM50e hard drive uncompatible with the BCM50? Any assistance will be appreciated.

CORRECTION

The hard drive replacement came from a BCM50a.

There should be no reason why the hard drive from the other BCM wouldn't work in the system where the hard drive failed.

You wrote that the system comes up (I assume you get two green lights). Now, what do you mean by "the system ID does not show up"?

First, the system ID is on the label at the bottom of the BCM unit. Second, if the system is up, you can use either BCM Monitor or Element Manager to connect to it and in both you can see the system ID (make sure you use the IP address of the system from which you took the hard drive).

You just have to apply the keycode file that was issued for the first system and you should be back in business.

If the replacement drive has been used in another system and keycoded then you will have to do a factory reset to clear out the old keycodes.

Then you can reuse the hard drive.

I have done this loads of times recovering old systems hardrives for reuse
