Hi,
I have a problem with the BCM50 rel 5.0 with 26 Ip Phones 1220 and 1230. They are connected in 3X Nortel 12 port PoE switch. One expansion unit for GATM8 module. It happened two times when it was working for 5 days then suddenly all the phones has "locating server" on the screens. I logged in to BCM and noticed that it is very slow. Tried to reboot the system and still the same problem, tried to power down all three PoE switches and power down the BCM as well. Then powered up the BCM without the PoE switches. It worked just fine then powered up the PoE switches and the system went to normal operation but after 5 days of operation, it went down again. All patches are latest one. Can you help me what is going on?

My company sells and services BCM 50's and in the last year have seen alot of defective units returned after being in service for a short time. I would first try doing a back up, then doing a level 2 reset put the keys and patches back then restore and see if the problem goes away if not go back to the seller.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I just want to know if the keycodes will be deleted, if yes can I re-apply the keycodes?

I have installed 2 BCM50 rel5 within the past month both of which didn't start up properly.
The first one top led kept flashing for about half an hour then went RED,
I could not access it with EM but the phones displayed time and date..
After a lot of reboots with the same results I eventually did a level 2 reset via CLI(putty).

The system then came back to normal.

The 2nd one went the same way but the Led did not go red , Just kept flashing.
I could access it with EM..I applied the latest patches and it came back up normally..

I think Nortel/Avaya production is not as good as it use to be,,(personal opinion)

level 2 reset will wipe out everything including keycodes. As log as u have the keycode file, u can reenter it no problem.

Plus add the patches to match it when you did a back up so when you restore it matches the back up.

Thanks I will try that...
One more question please, I noticed when the IP Phones (26 pcs) went "locating server" and trying to "connect to S3" I logged in to BCM and I cannot open the Resources>telephony resources>IP sets there was a java windows that says error. The bcm is very slow, so what I did is powered down the whole unit and powered up and its working. Is the DHCP settings on the IP phones caused this problem? I also noticed on the Data services>DHCP settings, there is a leased on each IP address registered for 1 week. I suspect the error caused when the DHCP leased were expired and re-register each IP hones with new IP address so what I did is to assign each IP phones with Static IP and DHCP disabled and see what will happen in 1 week.
