I have a BCM50 currently with 1 expansion chassis containing a Digital Trunk Interface. I need additional extensions but also 5 analogue extensions (modems/fax's). If I add another expansion chassis (I believe I am limited to 2?) would it be best to add a digital extension interface and then 5 x ATA or an ASM for the analogue extensions and IP Phones instead of the digital extensions? Any advice would be much appreciated.

There is the availability of 4 analog ext. on the main unit,2 are there already the other 2 ports are unlocked by keycodes. I would use a DTM 16 in another expansion chasis and 1 ATA plus the 4 analog ext.'s that reside on the main unit. If you are using them already,I would use 5 ATA's with a DSM16. I don't see an advatage to using ip sets over digital, unless you have remote users.

Thank You! I can now see from the RJ21 wiring diagram that there are 4 analogue telpehone connections. I have connected an analogue telephone to device 5 (DN 233 Port 413) but it is dead. Am I missing something?

you need a key code to inable it

there are 2 different ones

NTKC0238 BCM50 Analog Station - 2 Port Authorization Code
NTKC0239 BCM50 Analog Station - 4 Port Authorization Code

TIP :

If you have newer generation of fax , you probably would get problem with old ATA so you might want to use the internal analog which can handle faster baud rate than the old ATA .

Do you need CLID or OSI generation? If so then the ATA won't supply those features. The on board ports will and so will the GASM.

I am told that these key codes are only compatible with v2. I believe I have v1? (bcm_m50r1 1.00.2.04.j) Is this correct and if so, is it just a software issue that can be upgraded or is it the physical hardware? Thanks

you can upgrade the software to 2.0. A vendor should be able to tell you if those keycodes are compatable with 1.0, those are the part numbers I've been using for a while, but they have been 2.0 systems.

Also Im sure there are keycodes for the same thing on 1.0

Are the keycodes different between the 1.0 and 2.0 systems? How would you tell by looking at the keycode? Under the NT part number there is a Release xxx, is that the version the keycode is compatible with? Or does that mean something else?

I am told by my vendor that the codes are only compatible with v2 and even if I was to upgrade the software to v2, my hardware will not support the built in analogue extensions! They have suggested that I upgrade the software to v2 and then install a digital/analogue extension combi card. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

You need to find a new vendor. First, the keycodes work for either version. There aren't keycodes specific to version 1 or version 2, just bcm50. Second, there isn't a digital/analog combination card for the bcm.
