Hi folks,

Could you help me with something? Almost impossible to find a tech for these units now, so I'd be very grateful for any help anyone could provide

I've got a BCM50 module that has the status light blinking red. I suspect this is the cause of several sets at this location not working.

Manual says there are a few possible causes, none of which I know how to check or troubleshoot.

Hardware is working, but there is an operational problem such as:
• no link to main unit is detected
• frame alignment is lost on messages from the main unit
• bandwidth not allocated
• MBM is in maintenance state
• MBM is in download state (GASM, GATM4/GATM8)​

I'm not sure of the exact model of the module. It does have two slots for amphenol connectors like the DSM 32 image shows in the manual.

I've checked in Element Manager to see if there's anything I can work with there, but it's over my head. I've attached a screenshot of the Telephony Resources screen.

Looks as if the Digital station module is not working as its still enabling.
The alarms will tell you.
Is it the status light on the Expansion Module or on the Main Control unit that's blinking.

Usually its a power supply issue to the expansion unit that house's the DSM32 card.
BUT
Try powering this expansion unit down first, and switch it back on again.
swap the power brick from the combo card to see if the issue moves to the other unit.--to prove the power brick is ok or not

Try Removing the cable harness and power the unit down and power up again. could be a faulty phone or cable issue.
Try changing the power brick to this expansion unit. May not be supplying enough power to the card

Try changing the expansion chassis. May not be supplying enough power to the card
Try changing the Card.--Could be a faulty port on the card.

Reboot the whole system if all else fails. or do this first if you prefer to rule out a Lan port connection to the expansion.

Thank you for the advice. I should have given the troubleshooting steps I did take. Sorry about that.

I did the system reboot first, after backing up the configuration.
Also cycled the power to the expansion unit itself.
After that I was a bit scared to go further. I'll try those things as soon as I can get back on site.

Again, thank you for the pointers. I'm always blown away by how helpful people are on tek-tips.
 
You may find that you have to have the main unit up and running first before the expansion cabinet / module is powered up, although it shouldn't really matter.
Follow the good advice as already mentioned. You can get away in some cases by using a standard laptop power adapter as some of them used the same connector.

Also check that the Ethernet Cable is plugged into the LAN 1 port and not the OAM port on the BCM 50 main unit. You might also need to change over the Ethernet cable and I recall for the BCM 50 systems that a standard CAT 5 Ethernet cable will do.

Finally once it is powered up, follow the advice to disable the expansion module and then enable it to see if it connects. The DSM module should (I think) require all the dip switches to be in the UP position which is "ON".
