Hi,

One of our clients has recurrent errors regarding DSP 0. On the alarm set, customer says alarms 51, 53011 and 40003 show up.

The issue is that the system seems to lock up, denying all incoming and outgoing calls, voicemail stops working.

The set up is a BCM50 3.0 0X12, with 2 expansion modules, one with a GATM8 and the other with DSM16(Total capacity of 8 lines and 28 digital sets). A few IP phones run on this system too (about 13). We are thinking maybe one of the modules would cause this error, either the MBM or the Chassis.

The system was initially a 1.0 version and the version 3.0 update was beta tested by Nortel. Anyone ever experienced similar issues?

Here is a list of all the errors found with element manager regarding this issue:

40003 critical Media Services Manager MSM - Unable to communicate with DSP. Reboot system and if problem persists contact your local support group.

40004 warning Media Services Manager MSM - DSP audit failed.
Contact your local support group.

40005 critical Media Services Manager MSM - DSP reset. If alarm 40002
proceeds this then no action required otherwise contact your local support group.

53011 critical Media Gateway Server MGS MsmProxy:: <interface> returned error <error>.
Contact your local support group

What's most frustrating about these alarms is...we are the local support group :S

Thanks for any help

I had a similar problem with the same alarms a few years ago on the rel1 and got very little help from my support group...
mostly voicemail stopped working..

I just changed the system for another rel1 at the time and all has been ok since.
I know its not an answer for your problem.

Have u fully patched the system. There are quite a few for release 3.

Yep everything is up to date. Replacing the system is not an option at this point

There is one other thing you might want to try before swapping the system out.

Go into the backup/restore section and select Restore from the BCM. WHen the next page comes up, uncheck everything except Media Services Manager, click OK and follow the prompts. It will only restore that component back to factory default and leave everything else alone.

NOTE: Make sure you have a current complete backup on hand just n case.

I've used this procedure to resolve some other really weird problems that not even Nortel could figure out what was wrong.

If it works, let us know.

This might solve the issue, however, when I take a look at the backup tag, all I see is Callpilot messages, Callpilot config, and Ip music.

Is this option available through "Nortel password of the day"?

Thanks, I feel this solution could work if I can find the option you are talking about...

If you have another DSM try swaping this out had weird problem with a 32 dsm and swaping it cleared the errors and problem.

When you go into the Backup/Restore section in Administration, make sure you select Restore, not Backup and in the upper box, that Restore from BCM is selected.

Then click on the Restore button. This will bring up the screen where you uncheck all those options. Make sure that only Media Services Manager is selected. Then click OK. Another screen will appear telling you which components are being restored. When you're ready, click the Yes button to proceed. System will reboot so use caution.

Good Luck.
