Hi Guys,

I'm installing a BCM50 and I need to label my BIX desi strips.

I've tried to create one in word and excel, but they never seem to line up correctly.

I've also tried Desi Lite, but it doesn't work right.

What I really need is that beautiful Brady labeler IDXPERT, but it's kinda pricy!!!!

Can anyone help me? does anyone have a nice template or software solution for me??? There has to be SOMETHING out there for labeling BCM50 desi strips!!!

I can't find anything!!

Please, someone, help...???

It can be done with Excel, but you will have a lot of trial and error. Sizing the cells is the most time consuming part. I used Excel to create the label templates for some 110 Cross-Connect setups. Sometimes the manual feed on the printer is more fussy than getting the cells sized right.

As far as BIX is concerned, do you have any original BIX labels that you can use for a guide? I still have an original set of all the BIX labels.

I've kinda got something done in Excel, and yes, the sizing of the cells is frustrating. I was hoping someone on this forum would have one that they've made up for me to use.

I find it interesting that there is no real solution to this problem! Why doesn't somebody make bix desi labels for the BCM50?

Guess I'll just have to improve the one I'm working on and upload it for everyone else to use. darn...

and yes, I do have some blank desi labels of different colors, I was going for the professional look... marker works but not very nice.

During the time the BIX Cross-Connect System was manufactured by Northern Telecom, they made label sets for all their phone systems and others. But when NT spun off those divisions, only the generic labels survived. The newer systems never had any specific labels made. Now the BIX Cross-Connect line is owned by Belden. Belden does make labels for the BIX stuff; give them a call @ 800-235-3361, and have them send you a catalog. Review their offerings and call them for a few samples. Then you can see if they can be adapted to your needs. Even if they have no specific designation, you can always use a labeler to make custom designations for the BCM. I have used this method many times for the BIX over the years.

Rather than excel try access.
It's easier to do the layout for a variety of cell sizes.

I would use a Word (or other word processor) table rather than Access or Excel. You're going to get much better absolute control over the size of your cells.

If you had a ton of labels to do, you could also probably work up a mail merge to generate them.

I just went to the Desi.com website, thanks pbxn.

They do in fact have BIX labels. There are 12 labels on a sheet, 150 sheets to a package for $28.00/pkg, and are available in all EIA/TIA colors. The label backing is adhesive, so they can be removed. They have a lite software version you can try for free or use your own software.

So that is another option to try.

why make it complicated, just marke the first starting point and last with the range typed in, verses every port number, it is frustrating. Desi paper are great
