BCM50 Cold or Warn reset question

Hi,

I got my BCM50 up and running and I was thinking about doing a Cold or Warn to have the factory settings as my unit was a demo unit with some all kinds crazy programming. I was thinking I would do a reset to factory settings and start from scratch programming but I want to make sure I select the right kind of rest so I do NOT lose any of the keycodes.

What would you guys recommend so I do not lose the keycodes?

Also since I do not have a paper copy and the keycodes are in the system would I lose any of them doing any type of reset?

A cold reset will default your telephony and voicemail settings. Keycodes are not affected. This will still leave any SIP programming and other various tweaks to the system, if any.

A level 1 reset will factory default everything, but leave any software patches intact.

A level 2 reset will wipe the drive back to day one. A level 1 or level 2 reset will both wipe out the license file.

Back up the sensitive logs to your PC using Element Manager and then extract the files transferred to your PC using WinRAR. You will find the license file in the zipped file systemInformation.tar.gz in the /nn/etc folder. Save licensefile.txt to your PC. Then you can do a level 1 reset and reapply the license file you extracted from the sensitive logs.

What I would do is to do a couple of backups first!. The backup file will contain the keycode file when opened up using e.g. WinRAR etc. Look for the file called licensefile.txt.
This is your keycode file.
It's best to know what version of BCM 50 you have as there are two reset methods.

The original one uses the reset pin which can be a pain to do if you press it at the wrong time.

The later releases uses SSH to access it.

Would you guys recommend doing a restart or just program manually take the time and program.

Do a backup in case you mess it up as you can then recover it.
What you can do is to do a restore of the telephony only from within Element Manager and select the factory default option. This will keep your IP addresses and account untouched.
