BCM50: Cannot Change Date

I have a very perplexing problem. After installing patch BCM050.025-DSP-FPGA---Version: 1.3---Release1.0 to resolve the main unit analog trunk port 61-64 failures, we have not been able to change the date and time on our units. We are able to access the date and time settings, but after you make the change, it goes back to the original date and time the system had before the patch was installed. We have to change the time zone to get the correct time on our systems. Has anyone seen this problem or know how to resolve this issue?

Thanks for your help,
David

DavidC27,

We had that problem with unpatched, early release BCM50's. Try changing the time via the telset interface instead of the EM.

Thanks for the info. I will have my onsite tech try it this afternoon.

You said you have been having the problem too. One thing I noticed today was that this problem was happening to a system that has not been patched yet, like you stated... The one thing that sticks out in my mind is that we started seeing the problem after the daylight savings time change. Is this the case with you too?

DavidC27,

I only noticed the problem durring the initial programming of the system and only for early releases. So far I have not needed to go back to change the time on my first systems and the current release works OK.

J

Okay,
Now, please forgive me if I appear to be a little dumb on the topic of new release, but what release are you at?

Our current systems are release 1.00.02.04.j. I think the ones I had problems with were 1.00.02.04.g.

Nope, That's the same release that I am at. I talked to our vendor who supplied us with the systems. He sent me some patches that are "supposed" to bring us to the latest release. I'll give that a try and see what it does.

DavidC27,

Were you at least able to set the day/time correctly via the telset programming? What patches are they sending you?

J

DavidC27,
I just had the problem pop up again. For me it was an IP address/Gateway mismatch (oops, fat fingered the wrong address and messed everything up!). Here are the resolution instructions I received from Nortel:
BCM50 Time Will Not Change
There is an interaction between the IP system and time/date change.
To resolve the problem:
1. Launch Element Manager
2. Administration->General->Service Manager
? Check the status of 'tmwservice' service. This is likely stopped, resulting in inability to change the date and time.
? Go to Configuration->System->IP Subsystem
? Review the Default Gateway setting.
? Correct the Default Gateway to match the required Default Gateway.
? If the Default Gateway is not populated, or is a dummy/factory default, which does not tie in with the IP address of the BCM, then please correct this.
? For example, before the change:
? IP 10.10.10.51
? mask 255.255.252.0
? Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
? Depending on the BCM type, change the default gateway. If you have a BCM50e, the correct default gateway is that of the on-board router.
? For example, after the change:
? IP 10.10.10.51
? mask 255.255.252.0
? Default Gateway 10.10.10.52
? However with a BCM50, if no physical Default Gateway exists, modify default gateway so it has a dummy default gateway that reflects the correct IP subnet.
? For example, after the change:
? IP 10.10.10.51
? mask 255.255.252.0
? Default Gateway 10.10.10.1
You will lose connection as you make the change. Reconnect.
3. Launch Element Manager
? Administration->General->Service Manager
? Check the status of 'tmwservice' service
? This is likely still stopped.
? Start the service
? Check it is now 'Running
4. Modify the time/date as required.
? This should now modify okay.
