Hi Everyone,

At my business, we are currently working on our disaster recovery planning and one item that just came up was the BCM 50.

One of the items regarding the BCM50 is that it has a hard drive and what would occur if that hard drive failed / became damaged.

One of the preventitive solutions we though of, was to order an identical hard drive and then at some point ghost the BCM50 drive to the "standby" drive in case the BCM50 drive ever failed.

Now I've heard conflicting stories about the BCM and using ghost, but my question is does this seem feasible? or would we run into problems replacing the BCM drive with a ghosted hard drive? (we use ghost a lot around our office for imaging computers)

My other question is we just added additional licences to the BCM system and were provided with a .LIC file to install them. The licence we were provided with is sequence 2, and my question is: If we ever had to do a full reset on the BCM system, would this licence file be enough to reinstate the licences for the system?

Thanks

for your 2nd question, yes that licence file is enough, as you add features, they add to that file.

for your fist question, I didnt think bcm 50's had a hard drve. I will be curious to see what others have to say about it.

never mind about the hard drive, I opened a spare one I have, it fas a 40 gig maxtor sata drive. I dont know much about gosting though.

If you are experenced using ghost, then you shouldn't have any problems using it. I would make a ghost copy and then install it to see if I did it right and everything worked OK.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Thanks for the help BombOne and acewarlock. That's just what I needed to hear.

I'll probably look around the next couple days and pick up a Maxtor SATA drive (I know the specs are in the BCM manual) and try ghosting it. We use ghost a lot so I don't expect to run into problems.

I have used Ghost on about 10 BCM 400 with 3.6 and never had a problem.

Ghost is a Hard Drive Cloning software, Nortels Version is called BIT.
