i have a new bcm50 with the newest release. when i back it up to my computer, i choose where i want it to go and name the file. on the element manager it shows that it is backing it up, but when i go to check the file it is not there. tried this multiple time is multiple locations, even tried in my shared folder. the file never shows up. whats goin on?

Just wondering a couple things -

1) Have you tested backing up to say a USB key plugged into the BCM to see if backup functionality is working at all?

2) Are you using the latest version of element manager (downloaded from the BCM you are working on, which I presume is 2.0)?

When I do a backup to my Laptop, the Shared directory name is Backup and the BCM creates a dir called Backup in that Dir and a subdir.

are you trying to name the Backup file name?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I have tried it like that. When i backup a bcm400 i can put the file wherever i want it and name it whatever i want. i tried my documents, shared documents, and in the backup file under element manager that pops up automatically when you choose to backup. still nothing.

I have not tried the usb yet. next timi am onsite i will try that.

ANY OTHER IDEAS??

it is the newest element manager. i think i got it off of a bcm 400 rls. 4.0. i could have got it off of a bcm50 2.0. it works on both the 400 and 50.

I recently upgraded a BCM400 from 3.6 to 4.0 and when I downloaded the element manager from it, I found that it was older than the one bundled with BCM 50 release 2.0. If you are not sure where you got it from then try downloading it directly from the BCM50 2.0 and using that instead. Although the one you have installed might work on both the 50 and 400, if it is the older version it will have all sorts of funny issues when you use it with BCM 50 2.0.

For the record, the old EM is called "BCM Element Manager" and the new one is called "Business Element Manager." The new EM can manage other Nortel devices including all BCMs, switches, routers, and WiFi APs.

i jst downloaded the new one. i will try it later. does it work well with the 400?

Glad to hear it. I have not used the new EM all that much with the 400, but so far it works fine.
