BCM50 APC UPS install help, won't detect UPS

I am trying to install an APC Back-ups RS 1200 onto a BCM50 v5.5. It doesn't seem to detect the ups, and in the service manager the service is stopped and manually turning it on doesn't work. I have tried it with a usb hub and without. The data cable does work, I tested it on my laptop. Am I missing a step here?

are you missing the USB hub inbetween the UPS and the BCM?

oh.. nm. i guess i didnt read good enough. is the USB hub USB 1.1?

It's a USB 2.0 hub.

the port on the BCM50 is 1.1
