BCM50 Analogue Trunks R1

Amongst other things, we're looking at upgrading to R3 software as we need to use the 4 analogue trunks. I've now heard various conflicting reports about whether or not the (Analogue Trunk) hardware actually exists in the main CCU. If we upgrade our R1 to R3, will we be able to use the 4 Analogue Trunks after purchasing the appropriate analogue trunk key codes or is this going to be an expensive CCU upgrade?
