BCM450 upgrade

Noob question here:

I've started at a new job and have been tasked with resolving some wild issues with the BCM system here. First thing I noticed was that the software running on this box is R1 and have seen that the newest release is r6. What's the correct upgrade path to bring this thing up to date?
