When and how should it be used?

There is no doc!!

Seems silly to release a patch for an image when they should just fix the image and re-post for download.

You load that after upgrading a system. Say you upgrade a 450 from R1 to R6. If you ever have to level 2 reset that system, it would revert back to R1 if you didn't load the image upgrade patch. After loading the factory image upgrade, the system will revert to release 6.0 if you level 2 reset the box.

Usually I do the upgrade, patch it, then schedule the image upgrade patch for a few days after the upgrade. If something pops up that doesn't work and is caused by software, I can revert back to the previous release. That also saves an hour or so of staring at element manager while the image update patch is applying.
