I purchased a 450 for my lab and it's DOA on arrival when it the ebay seller had it working.

It was the most pathetic shyte job of packaging ever.
The box was over sized, they used breast implants and one layer of tiny bubble rap.

When I went to open it:
-the top of the box was caved downward a couple inches
-the tape on the ends at the top fell off and the table down the middle (ONE STRIP ONLY!) was barely on
-a third of the implants had burst
-the BCM was sitting only on it's single tiny bubble rap layer
-I went to pull it out and an MBM fell out
-The brackets on both sides were bent almost backwards in a couple places

and!
to top it off!
While watching my driveway camera, I witness the ^&%$^&&*%^%^$UR$%E$ that delivered it slam it down like it was a bag of cement on my cement stairs.
He was also the new mailman so I did not want to start anything with him or I may not get mail anymore.

What are the odds of being so extremely lucky to have this wonderful 450?

Anyway that's the background.

I went to power it up but no nothing except for:
Power Solid Red - Status Solid Red
No fans of any sort or other LED's come on.

I swapped power supplies with working ones, same issue
I swapped with a mint look BFT (untested) but this time:
Power Flashing Red - Status Flashing Red

While I sit perplexed, I want to suplex 2 schmucks

Any ideas?
Thanks

I found I have a converted 400 cabinet with a 450 BFT so I tried that one.

Power Flashing Red - Status Flashing Red
after 20 flashes it goes to
Power Solid Yellow - Solid Yellow
Then keeps repeating

Power Solid Yellow - Solid Yellow - sorted!

It appears that the HD enclosure has a tab on one side of the bottom at the back sticking out a little farther (1/8 or 1/4") then the other one I have, the enclosure tab is hitting the back plate therefore the HD is not inserting into the back connector.
The difference is the one BFT and HD Enclosure is part the migration kit 400 to 450.

Knowing this I now need to change the HD in the enclosure and not try swapping enclosures with HD's inside.

If you can't fix it no one can!

Can you get a refund?

Hello Curly, Did you check the small circuit board in the middle of the BCM 450 that connects the BFT with the disk drive etc.

I've had trouble with that component failing.

I got a refund notice 3-5 days last night.
The seller had excellent service, they said not to bother shipping it back.

The seller stated they had UPS pack it, I believe it since it it was a UPS labelled box.

I ordered an "interface" card yesterday, even though under the correct eyewear the solder points looked fine.
It was exsmogger's thread I found yesterday that had a similar issue where you gave the hint and exsmogger used a heat nozzle and flux only to fix, thus why my close inspection.

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like you've been through the mill on this one. Have you tried connecting a HDD directly to the connector? You'll need to shim the HDD in front to get it to go in straight.

As Firebird mentioned, I've had a bit of good luck cleaning off the contacts on that small interface board with a pencil eraser. I definitely got lucky that one time I put a light coat of flux on the BFT connector and hit it with my hot air nozzle. Probably a 1/10 chance of that working, but one never knows.

Not sure what you mean but this is a sata HDD/BFT setup, besides the BFT connecter going to the interface card the only other connector is the IDE one on the interface card which goes to the MBM's board.

I received the Interface Card but it did not work.
In fact it may have blown the one port on the back of my UPS which is hard to get at for testing.

I will order another 450 that works, then I can try each part on that one.

I mean without the HDD mounting bracket. Sometimes it doesn't quite go in straight and make good connections with the SATA connector. I put 4 screws into the bottom of the hard drive to raise it up a little so it goes straight into the connector.

I'm guessing you have a bad BFT, so buying another 450 would seem to be a good course of action.

Solved!

I did end up removing the SATA connector from it's bay and tried connecting direct but it did not work.

I bought a working one, and one labelled "parts only".

The first thing I tried was the BFT from the working one, same issue!

I looked down at the 2 Molex power connectors from the PS going to the MBM backplane, lets try unplugging both at the MBM backplane, turned on power and presto!, I have PS fan, case fan and HD all running/booting.
The top one was the culprit when plugged in.
I pulled out the MBM's, 2 at the top and 1 at the bottom, the bottom one required prying with a lot of force.
I looked inside the BCM at the backplane and could see the issue. The pins were completely mangled on the top 2 receiving connectors.

I have never run into an issue with this before and I guess why I did not think to look closer at this section at the time.

I cannot find this part online at all.

I have to conclude that the connectors were broken off the backplane by the force of dropping (or somersaulting of the back of a UPS truck), and that I pulled the MBM's out part way while troubleshooting, then pushed them back in, crushing the newly exposed pins.

Well, that's a star from me for all your efforts in diagnosing to component level. At least the BCM is now useable but without the MBM in that troublesome slot.

Just leave a blank cover in there with a note of "Do Not Remove"

Nice to see it fixed..🩹

Just shows you ….” There are NO Angles in UPS “ 😇💸

Does FedEx not carry 2 sets of rope ladders, step & extension ladders or scaffolding and swing stages?

I finally converted my driveway cam's footage to gif....

That's a 40 pound BCM with no nothing under it, only a few implants on top or around it.
While I didn't show him the video he took responsibility and apologized.

Next time you want to do that then learn to do it right...
