We have a BCM400 with the default 256MB of RAM. Recently I've been getting constant "Physical memory near or on its capacity" alarms. In the BCM Monitor the Physical Memory is consistently at 70% to 80%.
My question is - we have a spare BCM motherboard kit (order to have in stock just in case) and it also came with 256MB. Can I add the 256MB to the existing system? Has anyone done this before?

That's a great question because I have a customer that I have recently noticed this problem with also. They have about 25 digital sets, 52 IP sets, 8 analog stations, and 1 PRI. I also see an alarm that says something like " the BCM has recovered from physical memory loss". I have been meaning to post the same question as grcampb and just figured I'd add my 2 cents in in the mean time.

In the BCM 4.0 Installation & Mntce pdf guide I have, it states the following..

Increasing the amount of memory
To increase the amount of memory in the system, you can:
• add another DIMM to the second DIMM slot.
• replace current DIMM with a DIMM that contains more RAM.

Therefore it is OK to increase the memory.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Thanks Guys, I'll let you know if/when we try it how it goes.
