I have been signing-into my company BMC400 with BCM element manager for most of the day, i made some ip changes and rebooted the bcm. After reboot i tryed to connect and am now given this error -

Detector 'BCMDetector' cannot determine the device type for 10.*.*.*

I can ping the ip's on both port 1 and 2. What can i try to reslove this issue. Could it be that the system is not fully rebooted. I was told by the Tech who install it that it takes approximately 3 hours to reboot. Any help is greatful.

Thanks

soft Reboot should take about 10 mins,

Go to the system and check all the leds have settledown to steady.
If they are still flashing the hard drive may have failed..
or needs rebooted again.
Is the voicemail still working..if not you may have to power down to do a hard reboot.

OR connect a laptop directly into the lan port and try from there to see if you can access the system

Ok, there is a problem with the harddrive, however i can now get into the bcm using element manager, but i cannot see all of the Resources. It is just taking that long to boot. This BCM just have some technical issues. It is now just under 3 hours that it was booting.

Thanks

Connect a com cable (NULL) from a laptop to the BCM com port. Open up hyperterminal (9600, 8,n,1) and you will be able to see the boot up process. Capture the text to a file, and note where you see the BCM stalling.

I use this process each and every time I upgrade a system. I see stalling at certain locations, but this will help you out immensely!

Debrewsky - That sounds very good i will try that if i have to reboot again. It is very educational to know that and thanks for that info. I never setup a BCM400 before and and i do not even know where to look for the patches that was placed on the BCM.

Dasheen - With the error, after wating approx. 3 hours i was able to log into the system, now the next time it boots i will connect the serial cable with the setting from Debrewsky and see what happens.

Now the error that i first log is gone after waiting 3 hrs. Now i want to setup the H323 IP GATEWAY but i am not getting all of the table when i go to Resources-Telephony Resources-IP trunks. I cannot see any settings when i select H323 settings. What might be the Problem here?

Thanks

Patch your system to current levels first. Both the service update and desktop. Then download the Element Manager to upgrade the version you have on your PC to the current level, then try again.

Be advised though that if you have Call Centre Reporting, you will need to delete old clients and re-install the new ones. That goes for any applications you may hae running.

Debrewsky - I did a capture when i rebooted the BCM400 and the autocoreupload, cfsserver, freezes

When loading - autocoreupload - the system freezes for at least 4 min
cfsserver - this takes 4 min also to load
Msm - this takes 5 min also to load
Wan - 3 min to load
LogManagement - this takes 4 min to load
Mps - This takes 3 min
EchoServer - this takes

It is just taking to long to wait and see if any fails, I have capture running and will look through the text file to see if any failure occur.

Thanks.

RPM Database corruption sounds like. View Nortels KB.
