We currently have a BCM400 3.7 with an expansion chassis with the following modules.
3 DSM32+
1 DTM
1 ASM8
1 GATM8
We want to add additional DSM32+ units to the box. My question is, how many more of these can I add before I run out of resources?

very true... i have had this problem with a bad customer, depending on the split you should look into i2004s.. I found some on the internet for 150 a piece about 3 weeks ago, i didnt need them then, but i bought a few of them anyways.

3 DSM32+ 1 Bus each = 3
1 DTM 1 BUS = 1
1 ASM8 1/2 BUS = 1/2
1 GATM8 1/2 BUS = 1/2

For a total of 5 BUS being used so if your a 3/5 split, thats it. If your a 2/6 then you can add 1 32+.

If your using the Analog statino cars for fax machines or modems you can remove them and connect them directly to the Fax or modem and regain a BUS.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Disregard that about the Analog card.

Youre allready using your 6 buses so your definitely on 2/6 split.Probably your 3 dsm32+ are using bus 2,3 and 4, your asm8 uses half of bus 5, gatm8 uses half of bus 6 and the DTM is using bus 7. Best thing to do would be to replace the asm8 by a dsm32+ and put your faxes and modems on ata's (verify that you need all 8 analog ports).

Could someone please explain the "split"? I don't know what the 3/5 or 2/6 mean and how it affects the buses.
Thanks.

2/6 split means 2 buses used for applications ressources and 6 buses for tdm or physical applications like digital sets(dsm32+),digital trunks(PRI).
3/5 split means 3 buses for applications ressources like ip sets and 5 buses for physical like digital sets etc..
In your case you're allready using 2/6 and have to stay like that with the config you have. It's pretty well explained in the bcm's documentation, you may want to take a look.

I am considering replacing the ASM8 with a DSM32+. Do I have sufficient resources to do so? Here's what I was able to get from the system
Bus
2 - DSM32+
3 - DSM32+
4 - DSM32+
5 - ASM8
6 - DTM
7 - GATM8

Would that work?

That will teach me to read my replys before I send them, yes you are using 6 BUS already.
