BCM400 4.0 Patching issue Will not apply

I was trying to load a su23 patch last night ( su23 per the clients request I know we are up to 26) when it validates the 2 components sw management comes up as obsolete and the actual update validates . I apply the the validated patch and all the files upload it starts applying then fails. In the alarm log it comes up as critical error rpm 108. I tried it again with su26 and all the same things occurred exactly.Anyone experience this ? Any thought would help. Thanks in advance folks.
 
When u attempt to complete a backup do u get "shadow error?" I had the same thing happen and when I gave up, I decided to just do a backup and got shadow error. Ended up having to replace the HD.
 
I did 2 back ups prior to attempting to load the patch and both were successful
 
Not at first but I did between trying su23 and su 26. I know the patchs are good becuase I have deployed both recently. I am also wondering why it was saying software management patch was obsolete
 
I looked it up and I need to apply the software management patch first but the problem is when it validates it comes up as obsolete, any one have the pleasure of having this happen?
 
Issue is due to a SU patch being installed previuosly without installing the SM patch. Need to either replace HDD or reimage HDD and then install patches correctly.
 
All they had on there previously is BCM 4.0 AUGUST CUMLITIVE PATCH su13 and desktop 08. I wonder if they rpm database is whacked.They are afraid of patches becuase of the IVR APP they are running.
 
There is an issue on BCM v4.0 that can cause the RPM database to be corrupted, I have all so seen it on BCM 50 R1s.

It can be fixed by Nortel sometimes it might be quicker and cleaner to backup and Re-image the drive.

These issues with RPM corruption where fixed with the software management patches


If its not broke tweak it..
