Our companies installation manager has outsourced an 'independent' field tech for a BCM upgrade (3.7 to 4.0). This tech has his own personal laptop that he will be taking onsite with him and I was wondering -- Is it possible to backup a BCM400 (3.7) to a laptop (through the LAN 1 port) that is not part of any network using the BRU?
I know that to send the backup to a local PC (running Windows XP) you need a folder shared on the network... my question is... would the admin (owner) of a laptop that is not on a network be able to send it a backup to a folder on his desktop? And if so, when using the BRU, would the user name (normally domain name\user name) be the computer name\user name?
I don't want to "green light" the field tech for the job if it's not possible. Oh yeah, here's the kicker--the end customer has only done scheduled internal backups to the E drive since the installation, they never made an external backup and will NOT allow the system to be backed up onto thier network. I will refuse to go forward with the upgrade without a good backup and have suggested we attempt to find another tech (its a very remote region), but would like to know if it's possible before replacing the tech. Thanks.
