Hi all,
We inherited a site with a BCM1000. Basic setup, digital handsets and voicemail. THey lost power for over 24 hours and since then, no voicemail and unable to log into BCM.
Engineer attended, performed a power recycle, and same scenario.
Can I assume that the MSC may have gone faulty???
As I have only ever worked on the 200/400 platforms, is there a specific version of MSC card required?

Any help appreciated.

Reg

I would have a guess at the hard drive being faulty. I have had a problem like this in the past and it was the hard drive. I would also check that your mspec cards are in correctly. But I would say it is probably te hard drive. If the Phones are working then the MSC card is good.

Thanks Marshall,

We are unable to verify the software revision running on this system. On opening the unit, the HDD is a Maxtor 20.4 Gig. Am I right in thinking this has already been upgraded to 3.6?

They have another site in the country with a BCM1000 and that has been upgraded to 3.6.

Is there any other way of obtaining info off of the system?

Regards

Have you tried putting a monitor on the front of the BCM and see if you get an error message. It is definetly a 3.01 or above. 3.01 was when they started using 20 gig hard drives. Is it all the LED flashing? What info are you trying to get.

Marshall

All the led's are green solid. All we were trying to do was give the customer access to their system again after a power outage. We were unable to connect via serial or LAN. The IP address was the default and we could not ping it either. Customer using digital handsets, all ok. Just no voicemail and no connection to the system. Unfortunately, they do not have a UPS. As we inherited the system, we do not know how many times this may have occurred in the past.

If we obtained a new HDD from Nortel, would it cause a problem if we imaged it as 3.6 and later found out that the original was 3.01?

Obviously, the unit was not on a network, hence no backup, so it looks like a reprogramme jobby.

Regards

Did you check to see if the MSPEC cards are in correctly. I had the same problem after a boxed had been shipped from a site and the MSPEC cards had came loose. Maybe you have a fault with them.

Marshall

mrmarshall is right.
Remember the BCM is a PC. Remove and reseat the components, including the memory, and cabling and try again.
I am confused about all of the LEDs being green.

Hi all, thanks for your replies. We have checked that the MSC is seated correctly and the MCPEC's are in firmly.

Yes all the led's are green solid. All telephony is functioning. Voicemail and logging into the system is a no go.

Have you tried removing the MSPEC cards and only putting 1 in instead of 2.If you can get your hands on one from some where to try instead of the current ones.Did you confirm the boot process by trying to acces the BCM via the serial port.

Marshall

Thanks Marshall,

No activity from the serial port either. Tried a cable which we had connected to the BCM serial port previously.
Looks like sales team will have to go in and try their magic.
I suppose that is one of the problems encountered when you inherit an older system from elsewhere.

Thank you all for your assistance.

I have to ask to make sure the bases are covered. Did you use the same laptop and cable to make a connection to any other BCM?

NARSBARS

Thanks Narsbars

Yes it was the same laptop and cable that connected to another bcm successfully

Just a hack you may try. Have you got an old Win 98 HD?
Pull the MSC card and boot. If you still have nothing it is probably the Motherboard.
Best of luck
