Customer has BCM1000 3.6. Here are the issues:

1. They are having problems with OPN. OPN will work at times and then not work for a period of time. We have had Nortel involved in this issue over the past year. They wrote a patch for it. We put in this patch. Everything started working good until recently. The problem with OPN that they are having now seems different.
2. I was talking with the customer and got cut off. I tried to call her back on her DID 3 times and after 4 rings went to VM. She finally called in and said that she had been waiting on my call. Her phone never did ring.
3. The other day after they had a power outage certain phones lost Answer DN buttons. Everything else was OK as far as we know.
4. I had them reboot the BCM and it took telephony down also which it is not supposed to do.
5. In the past when I have tried to put in certain patches I get an MSC error. If I remember right it was that it was not the right release.

Are we looking at a bad MSC card? We have a backup of the system. I have never done a restore on the 3.X machines. Will my backup work on a new MSC?

Thank You! My remaining hair that I have not pulled out yet thanks you!

Definitely sounds core related. It's possible it could be a failing MSC, but it could also be some type of corruption in the telephony database. Swapping the MSC may resolve the issue, but if it doesn't then you're out the MSC card, unless you can try to run it through the "bad MSC" program, if its still active.

Depending on the size/complexity of the system, you could also try doing a startup and rekey the system. I'd be leary of restoring a backup if the integrity of the database is unknown.
