BCM with Companion

Hello everyone

Recently I installed a BCM 3.5 at a retail store. The store
was using a MICS 4.1XC with companion.

The install required a straight swap of the MICS for the BCM 3.5. The base stations and RPI were moved of affected in any
manner.. Immediately after installing the BCM, the companions
started to lose their voice channel. You would press the page
button,and the page tone would be heard and the music would stop,but 2 out of 10 times the page being made would not go through.

It appeared that the voice path would not work. If you released the page and retried right after, it would then work.

Nortel ITAS has worked on this problem and indicate that they can't find what is causing this. They have come back to me with the solution of running new cable and relocating the base stations ( 7 in total ). I find this hard to swallow as a solution due the fact that the companions worked perfect before when the MICS was in place, but the minute that the BCM was installed, the problem started to occur.

did they tell why running new cables will solve the problem?

why did the client upgrade from norstar?

That sounds like itas doesn t know the answer, nothing new on the bcm,dissconnect all bay stations, hook up one on a temp cable and try it, should prove them wrong quickly and inexpensivly, are they using an rpi?

I agree that it sounds like ITAS doesn't know the answer. As far as disconnecting the base stations, I'm convinced that the BCM is not fully compatible with the older Companion system.

Since they are introducing the a new replacement system, the Kirk network, they just don't want to fix this problem and deal with the older wireless system.

By the way, yes they are using a RPI and all the retail stores will be replacing their MICS's with BCM's. The BCM's that have been installed at other stores (without companion) seem to work quite well (with exception to having to install one patch, Core 5.08 , to stop the ports of the older M series sets from locking up.

The problen with hooking up only one is that it won't force them to admit that the fault is not the base stations (deployment), and it does work 7-8 times out of 10.
