Hey Guys,

We have a BCM 400 currently at one of our locations. We have about 20 sets hooked up and they are all working great. The setup is with old digital phones m7310 phones.

I know this system supports VOIP, and I would like to start learning about that and how to setup it up, as we are opening remote locations.

What is the best way for me to equip myself with the knowledge and insight on how to configure VOIP lines. Any good guides online?

Thank you all, this community has been great and helpful.

@norstarboy125

The system software on there is 4.0.2.03;

I have plenty of networking experience. I understand DNS, DHCP, Routers, Switches, VPNs, etc. I have simple telecom knowledge. I have programmed phones, wired phones from block to end set etc. So I am not sure that is enough to start.

I sent an email to our Phone Vendor, and he said that to get VOIP working we need a (BCM IP Telephony Client- 1 seat EA ) is that correct? So we need licensing keys to get VOIP working on the BCM system.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Yes you need licensing. Their are 2 VOIP options. IP clients which connect IP phones, and IP gateway trunks which connect systems together.

You'd better get your licenses pretty soon. Your 400 will go non-supported March 1, 2012.

Or better yet upgrade it to a 450 the current release 6 software. It is an easy upgrade but without a lot of ecperience I would let your vendor do it.

I would not recommend a novice take it on by themselves.

You will need to buy everything through an authorized Nortel (woops..Avaya) dealer anyway. Might as well have them do the upgrade and get ou up to speed on the system all at once.

Guys,

I did some more digging. On the unit itself(the back part) it says its a BCM 200. But on the BCM Element Manager it says it is a BCM 400. Which do I assume is correct?

Thanks all,

I would assume the physical label would be correct. How many expansion slots dose it have and how many U does it take in the rack?
