BCM using Satellite IP??

I have never put in a BCM for a customer using Satellite IP. The connections to the IP sets is really bad. Is there anything I am supposed to set differently when the connection is a sattelite???

I would say that you could have a fair amount of problems. There would be a lot of delay because of the distance. I have had an ip set work across satelite but it wasn't on a BCM. The system was Mitel and it worked just fine.

Yeah, it is in general a bad connection not to mention the HUGE delay to connect.

Any suggestions other than telling the customer it wasn't designed for this type of connection?

No suggestions from me. I haven't dealt with IP sets on the BCM too much. They don't download any code if I recall correctly. On the Mitel the sets download code first, and that can be stored on a different server, so what was done was the DHCP on the set side of the satellite was set up with the firmware files etc, so that was local and then the set was pointed to the PBX for call control. It worked quite well other than the delay that you get with satelite phones.

There is no fix for having a sattelite at 22,300 miles one way. The BCM can add 50ms delay in processing time alone depending on your settings. The sattelite round trip, assuming only one sattelite and no land lines adds about 250ms. The best conditions possible add a third of a second to your round trip.
BCM documentation will tell you that this is unacceptable.
