Hi, I have a client with BCM400 system, they would like to upgrade to BCM450, the question is, do I have to change all the hardware or only the function tray?, the other one is about the backup and licences, is there any way to regenerate this BCM400 backup to BCM450 as well as the licences, is there any way to do that, and what do I need exactly?, I'll appreciate your help...

Thanks

Assuming your 400 is a release 4.0. you just have to order the BCM450 upgrade kit from Avaya. It contains everything you need. All the hardware and software licenses and instructions are included. You will also need the Avaya Data Migration Manager software tool which can downloaded from the Avaya website.

If everything goes smoothly, it should only take about 4 hours to do but if this is your first one, be prepared to spend at least double that (and then some, possibly). I've had some go smooth as silk and others that took days!

My experience with these upgrades look like the process is a lot smoother if the system being upgraded started life as a release 4. If it was originally an NT based box upgraded to a release 4.0, then there's a good possibility that you're in store for a nightmare. I don't have anything to prove it........just my experience with the 50 or so I've done since the 450 came out.

Of course, things got a lot worse as soon as Avaya got mixed up with it! Seems like everything they touch turns into dog poo!

Good Luck and post with your results.

Thanks dude for your information provided, and as for the backup, if I do this upgrade, would be there any way to convert this BCM400 rls 4 backup to BCM450 compatible? or do I have to reconfigure manually from the HTML backup?, what is the best option?

thanks,

Restores can only be restored to the exact same version that was backed up.

i.e you cant backup a product, upgrade it, then restore an older version.
The whole idea of the migration sequence is to do that for you.

You can't use your 400 backup to restore a 450.

You use the data migration manager tool to take the data out of the 400 and program the the 450. It's not a complicated process if you follow the instructions.

If the upgrade fails, you just rebuild the 400, boot it back up and you're back where you started.

I never liked the upgrade kit, like telcodog said it seemed to be hit or miss. look at what a 450 & a migration code will cost. The last one I did a couple of years back was even less than the kit was.

Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it, I see the best option maybe would be re-program the BCM450 out of the BCM400 HTML backup so we can avoid any bugs.
