I just met last week with three Avaya Sales Engineers. We talked about upcoming software releases, including the BCM 6.0 and none of them said anything about a stay of execution for the platform. They were still talking about IP Office 7 which will support BCM T-series phones and BCM features.
Did they say much about BCM R6 ? Is there anything you can share ?
I personally believe if they brought the flexibility and features of IPOffice (i.e shortcodes, vmpro, contact store and networking capabilities) into the BCM's reliability (i.e hardware) and kept the BCM contact center offering.
This would give the best product/solution for the customer on the market in my view.
I always see Avaya's strenght with features end user experience. Nortel lacked in that department nut they did make up for it with reliability, a good CC offering and all round a solid product, albeit possibly lacking a nice end user experience.
There is no question that there are many things about the IP Office that is sooooooo much better than the BCM. I am pulling my hair out with a BCM50 now. I wouldn't have the problem with an IP Office.

Khosher, they didn't give me any details, only that 6.0 is in Alpha testing and will be available in a few weeks. I'll have another meeting with them soon and I'll press for more details.
As Far as i am aware, Avaya are in Developement of the new IPO500 V7. This new system will accomodate both avaya handsets and BCM Handsets. Thus eliminating the requirement for th the BCM systems.
That's funny..I'm doing beta trials at the end of the month on BCM Rel 6.0 at a customer site and it too will accommodate both Nortel and Avaya phones. That's far in advance of the IP Office. Wonder which one will really survive? Maybe both.
Telcodog, have you seen the r6? I'm wondering if it's actually an IP Office in a BCM chasis. BTW, I had heard that Nortel IP phones would be supported on IPO rls 6 and digital sets on rls 7. I tried registering an I1230 on an IPO rls 6 this week and couldn't get it to work. I'll play with it more as time permits.
