I have tried this before but to no avail so i am going to try again.

BCM 400 R 4.0. I have LAN 1 connected to the outside world, LAN 2 internal. I want devices on LAN 2 to be able to access the internet. How do I get LAN 2 to be able to interface with LAN 1 or how do I get the BCM to act as my router to the outside world. Right now my devices on LAN 2 cannot access the internet. Please help.

I know on 3.7 it's called Fast Routing Between LANs. It needs to be checked and reguires a reboot to work. I've also had trouble finding that entry on 4.0.

I'll bet biv343 or Magna know.

The internal router is aware of all interfaces.
I assume you are using private IP address on your internal side. Try turning on NAT for the internal interface.

So once i do that, will my remote IP phones be able to connect to the public IP and boot up with the BCM?

That's got nothing to do with remote phones. that depends on which is your published LAN IP. Your public IP must be the published one for that. I personally don't recommend that method of connecting IP phones, but I'm not going into that discourse again.

As to using the BCm as a router, I have yet to attempt that feat on a BCM 4.0. However, multiple setups with 3.X have lead me to abandon that functionality in favour of a cheap and solid BSR222.

Agreed that putting a system on a public network is not good but that isn't exactly up to me. But my dilemma is i have internal and remote ip phones. Right now the internal ones are working fine but the external ones arent connecting. When i connect the BCM to the network, the remote phones work but the internal ones have no DT. I cant win and my boss doesnt want to pay for VPN. I just need to get these to work and someone told me that i had to use the BCM as a router to do this.

Do the internal ones register but not provide DT when intercom is selected or do they fail to register?

They register to the published IP of LAN 2 which is the public network, but no DT. I can dial out and once the call connects i have no problem hearing in either direction.

Try setting a LAN2 static route that points back into the LAN1 subnet. The DT is missing because the BCM is sending the DT packets out to the PUBLIC LAN gateway.

Should it point to the LAN 1 IP address or default gateway?
