I was just wondering if it is essential to have a BCM with an integrated router to beable to dial in remotely.

I have only been able to successfully setup one BCM that i can dial into, and that BCM had an integrated router

No, the integrated router doesn't have anything to do with dialup (in North America anyways). It should just be a matter of connecting a modem line, building a RAS connection on your laptop, then dialing in with the ee_admin account and appropriate password.

Only dialup/modem issues I've run across have been on BCM 1000 systems that have been upgraded from 3.0X to 3.5 or 3.7 without using the proper upgrade steps (meaning that the hard drive was swapped out instead of using the upgrade software).
