We bought a new BCM R4.0 hard drive directly from Nortel and we did install it on a BCM200 chassis. (customer lost pwd)

When we are starting up the unit, it show NORTEL NETWORK on the monitor that we've connect and the linux kernel popups but it keeps rebooting over and over after this step.

When I reinstall the R3.5 hard disk which is NT4.0 it boots up no problems.

Please help, is there any hardware modification we need to apply or anything to reset like bios parameters.

Did u do a proper upgrade from 3.5 to 4.0? Meaning did u purchase the upgrade kit and take the system to 3.6 then on to 4.0?

No, I've purchase a BCM 4.0 BRU hard drive directly from Nortel...

I am not upgrading, we just need to swap the hard disk to a new one since the previous 3.5 version is locked and there is no way to access the data/manager/disk

Nortel told me that I would just need a new disk ... please advise if I'm wrong

You need a new hard drive and an upgrade kit from 3.7 to 4.0 (just to migrate your keycodes to the 4.0 flavour..No need for cd's here since you have a 4.0 Hard Drive).I did that before at the benchtest and it was working, there was no need to do anything and the msc was updated with the 4.0 coreload.

Well... that's fine....

But my problem is not related to keycode but to the fact thst it keeps rebooting over and over again....

It's not related to keycode but you have to know that without that keycode you will lose all the keycodes that were previously in your 3.5 bcm.

Okay but any idea why it keeps rebooting... what should look at???

Remove the front cover and plug a monitor to the video connector, you`ll see the boot sequence and at which service it fails. My guess is when it tries to upload the core telephony. If its the case there`s a way to force the auto-core upload but you will need to open a case at Nortel for that.

I did connect a screen before posting my issue and it says;

Nortel Networks splash screen!!!

Then

Press any key to continue
Press any key to continue
Press any key to continue
Press any key to continue
Loading kernel Okay ***

........ and it reboots....over and over since a week.

Do you have the BIT tool? If so i would re-image this drive or another one and see if it fails the same way.

I don't think anyone read the original question.

If the system was at 3.5 and you just put a 4.0 hard drive in the BCM, it won't work. the system must be upgraded in the proper sequence so it also upgrades the BIOS.

You should put the 3.5 back in and try breaking the password. I'msure Nortel can dial in and access the BCM and reset the Password.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

So is there any way the cmos / bios could upgraded manually as right now, the 3.5 disk doesn't boot up... it is still frozen on the NT4 startup page that show the version and the amount of ram present in the system (255mb)...

This thing is making crazy and westcon cannot help me... I have no idea what I need to purchase from now to make it work... I would personally buy a brand new unit but my customer wants to keep his unit.

Do u have another 3.x HD available? If so, install that and use the 3.x to 4.0 upgrade kit. This way everything gets upgraded properly. Just my suggestion, others may have other thoughts.
