Hopefully someone can help me out on this one!
I have a BCM 1000 with redundant power supplies and mirrored hard drives. I took the system down to clean it up and blow all the dust out of it and it would not power back up. After changing power cords and inspecting unit to make sure I didn't damage anything and that all connectors were seated correctly I found out that if I unplug the power cord and plug back in the wall a few times it starts to work and run fine. This bothered me so I unplugged again let it settle plugged it bag in and it worked. I then unplugged it one more time to put the cover back on and put it back in the rack, it was unpowered for 15 minutes. When I went to power it backup we were back to no power until I repeated unplugging and plugging it back in a few times.
Can anyone help with this one? Why is it acting this way?

Have you verified the commercial power is not fluctuating?
Maybe the PS in the BCM is failing. You should be able to meter the power output from the PS on a spare plug from the power wire harness.
What type of LED indications are you getting during this failure?

I have had this same problem on several BCM 1000's and I have never figured out why it happens.

When this situation occurs I do not have any voltages, The BCM will not turn on. You would think that having redundant power supplies one of them would turn on.

Based upon the symptom, the issue is ....
a) commercial power - short in the outlet???
b) BCM power cord - short in the cord???
c) BCM power transformer

Again ... I would start with a volt/ohm meter and verify that I get the proper voltage from the outlet, through the cord, to the BCM. If its getting to it, but not through it, you've isolated the source of the problem.

HTH!

It has been NONE of the above on all of my BCM 1000's, just a wierd thing that happens.

Hate to disagree, but it has to be one of those items.
If you are getting power all the way to the point where it enters the BCM, but its not going through the BCM, there is your problem.

Here is what I have checked:
I have checked Wall power and outlet it is fine, I have even plugged it in another outlet that is on a different circuit.
I have replaced the power cord with a known good one. The one that was on the expansion cabinet that has not had this problem.
One thing that is weird is that when it is supposed to be running but isn't I unplugged the cable going to the expansion cabinet and the fans started to spin then stopped. So I thought that maybe the expansion was causing the problem so I unplugged the main unit plugged it in again and it still would not work.
By the fans spinning when I unplugged the expansion cable that tells me that there is some power getting inside the cabinet. I have not checked power connector on power supply yet.

On behalf of Dave T (who is unable to get logged into Tek Tips) here is a responce.

my suggestion for 4allcom is to unjack the 2 redundant power supplies (with power off) - jack them in again and turn on power, If my BCM1000 with redundant power is any indication it will then then power up, I frequently have this problem on my system which I only power up from time to time.

Interesting note on the Expansion.
Are you using the proprietary Nortel cable to connect the main and the expansion?
