Have to network two 400 rel 4.0 systems together using digital trunking. I've only done this using voip trunks over MPLS networks. Do I need a PRI or can we use a good old T1? I've looked through the Networking guide and it's not clear at all on how to set up the systems using digital trunks.

Has anyone else done this and if so, how do I set these things up for it.

Thanks.

You can do 'good old T1' if you don't need to pass caller ID, light message waiting lamps or things like that. If caller ID is a requirement, you'll need the MCDN keycode so you can build the PRI as SL1.

Set your T-1 cards as DTI-T1, build your trunks as E&M wink start, set the trunks as auto answer, build your target lines, route and destination codes and you sholuld be pretty much set.

Thanks Biv, I have the MCDN license coming for the remote system. Just wasn't sure on how to set up the trunks. Would it be any easier if the link was PRI? The documentation talks a lot about using it, just not much on T1. Customer is paranoid about voip on their MPLS network. Just a bunch of lazy IT guys in my opinion.

PRI would be the best and easest set up and you would MCDN on both systems.

MCDN already on the main site. Would I set up the PRI the same way as you described the T1 or is there some other setup option?

Pri is just channels no programming them you set up a route to point to the PRI pool making it a private route.

One side would be SL-1 and the second would be slave but you need the MCDN to get that seting.

Both sides are SL-1, with one having the sub-heading Master and the other side Slave. Make Master the one with a telco PRI, set to Primary.
