I am about to buy a BCM400 with 45 I2004s. The current phone system it will be replacing has 40 BT Versatility V8s. These only required 4 core from the Cat5e cable so each Cat5e cable is split to a 2 gang RJ45 socket. From memory these use pins 1,2,3 and 6

I am trying to find out if the wiring will need to be redone for the BCM400 if it is using Power-Over-Ethernet (to avoid PSUs per phone). i.e. will an I2004 operate with Power-over-Ethernet with pins 1,2,3 and 6 connected?

I'd be really grateful if anyone can let me know.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Guaranteed No. Since 1 Pair isn't gonna help you, with an IP tel. Just figure you need an RJ45 with all pairs punched down at both ends, if you want POE.

Keep in mind also that the IP phone has a built-in switch with a single LAN port in which you can plug a PC or a any other network device. Essentially, it splits the Cat5 for you.

As soon as you did this it is no longer Cat5e rated.
