BCM Gracefull Shutdown

Is there anyway to invoke a Gracefull sutdown of the BCM so the drive does not crash?

depending on what version you are talking about, it will be in different places. They do have a shutdown option In element manager it is under the Administration tab, then utilities, then under reset there is a shutdown option.
