Has anyone ever replaced the fan in an expansion module? Last time I had a bad one the customer was happy to just replace the entire unit. I don't like the idea of soldering a new fan in but I think this guy expects me to replace JUST the soldered in fan. Not something I am really interested in doing but his system is going to stop working. I replace the two main fans and it still sounds like a school bus grinder.
BTW is it the same fan as the regular ones?

Are you referring to bcm50 expansion unit fan.

If so just open it and replace the fan
Any I have done are just plug in, no soldering.

I havn't seen any that require soldering

This is the module itself, that pulls out of the cabinet. I have replaced the fans in the cabinet already. does the fan in the module also just plug in?

This is the expansion cabinet. When I opened it up there were two fans setting at the top, I unplugged them and replaced them, easy. With the cover still off I powered up and the grinding was still there. There is a removable 4x16 cartridge that pulls out from the bottom. The fan in that removable unit is defective, I can place my finger on it and feel the vibration. I think they are soldered in but this module is being difficult and I haven't had it opened yet.

I must admit i didn't know the MBMs had fans as any i looked at there wasn't one there.

Not that i see to many off the real old one's.

Good luck.

Thank you all. BCM50 is a learning experience for me, I have never been formally trained on them.
This is an older one. It has one 25 pair connector and 5 RJ11 modular jacks for lines 1-4.
It is the fourth one I have dealt with and already the second one to have a defective media Bay Module.
As mentioned my preference would be to replace the entire MBM. I am not an electronics repair facility I don't even have a soldering gun, I may have to remind him of that.
