I have to change ex numbers from 2 to 3 dig or 4 dig do I have to reprogram system from scratch like a new install or can you change ex and retain data for key system and vmail.

No u don't have to. Increasing the digits will add a 2 in front of the existing extension. U will however have to reprogram the voicemail.

I'd always go for a 4 digit extension length. Assuming a 400, if you upgrade to a 450, because the 450 has higher capacity and more system DNs, you can run into problems with 3 digit DN length.

Hope this helps.

I second that about having 4 digit DN lengths....it's also helpful if you have DID's, you can match up the last 4 digit numbers of the DID's with the extension numbers in most cases. You may have to do some rearranging with the parked code extension number. I chose my DID numbers in the 63** range, so all of my internal extensions are 6386, 6389, etc.
