Have some remote BCMs that I am responsible for that backup to a usb thumb drive as well as performing a weekly network backup.

Do the usb thumb drive backups overwrite each other or does the drive fill up?

I had on site were the usb drive became filled but unsure if this is a normal occurance.

I have noticed that the backup files are time stamped in the names of my network backups example "Bak_Houghton_20081026T020155.tar" and they do not overwrite each other.

Again, Do the usb thumb drive backups overwrite each other or does the drive fill up?

Thank you for your assistance!

From the Nortel Task Based Guides:

Backing up to USB storage Device.

The files will be written to the top directory level. You cannot specify a path to a different directory on the storage device. Each backup overwrites any pre-existing backup of the same type.

My experience is that the files do not over write & cause the thumb drives to fill up.You can check the alarm logs &
you will see critical error, unable to write to USB drive.

I have also seen that too. We have used them and the customer has had to erase old backups.
