Hi All,

If I already have a full version of SQL server, and I don't want to buy BCMCE, can I still integrate SQL with BCM. i.e. can I use the standard BCM with my existing SQL server application.

Cheers

Hi,

Nope. The Standard BCM (dBase) version will not allow you to rehost to SQL.

You must have the Corporate Edition to move to SQL.

Any particular reason you don't want to go with the Corporate Edition other than price?

Well I have compared the two products in terms of fuctionality and apart from database stability / scalability I cannot see why we would opt for S & M, we have talked to frontrange and they have said that BCM can support up to 100 concurrent users even though the recommended number is only 25

Cheers

Lee,

Not that I'm selling to you but, thats simple not true.... although some of the better features depend on how you want to use GoldMine.

* Organizational chart has a roll-up facility that you don't get with dBase

* Sorting under the tabs is massively faster in SQL

* Some SQL Queries can only be done in SQL (as it is sql). These are really really useful for adhoc reporting and fulfillment.

* OutLook add-in is SQL only.

* Exchange Link ( is SQL only.

* Security can be increased with SQL - at the end of the day someone can simply copy the dBase files or open them in Excel.

GoldMine can go over 25 users on dBase and can store 100k of records etc, however, maintenance becomes a real pain with more users and more data. I have a client that simply won't upgrade from dBase to SQL yet looses data on a daily basis (customers eh!). Don't underestimate the stablility factor, particularly if your using slightly older PCs/network etc.

Regards,

Richard.
