Has anyone set up a BCM with SIP trunks? I am wondering what your thoughts are on SIP trunks.

How is the voice quality compared to a PRI or analog?
Are the savings worth going to SIP trunks rather than a PRI?
Are there any "gotcha's" with SIP trunks?

Insofar as quality goes, it's just as good if not better than even PRI. Mind you, the SIP PSTN trunks have to connect via an MPLS connection because until the recently released 5.0, you could not register and authenticate to a SIP provider so the connections all tended to be high bandwidth.

Cost wise I'm not sure about. For digital trunks most customers go the full PRI and that cost will differ widely among vendors. You can generally get away with fewer PSTN connections with SIP but you do have to contend with the cost of the MPLS circuit. You would have to do your own cost analysis to determine the value. It's easy to configure and maintain too. Once you get the IP trunk routing table and associated SIP parameters done, the rest is exactly the same as you would do for any other digital trunking.

The only "gotchs's" I've run into so far is the network techs working on this stuff are newer at it than we are and sometimes make mistakes and don't want to admit it.

All the stuff I've done so far has worked out pretty well and I highly recommend it.
