I have a Nortel BCM that is connected to 7 ATA's some of them old and some new ATA-2. None of my modems that connect to the ATA can dial outside the system. They all worked previously on our Norstar system. I get a dial tone and then nothing. I've tried different Line Access codes, Access codes, different ATA's and no help. The wiring to the ATA's were not moved from the punch down blocks or anything. The 2 phone lines in are assigned to a different pool than the phone extensions. If I plug a Butt Set into the ATA I can dial an extension, but cannot dial outside the building. I've tried using just 1 ATA-2 and disconnecting the rest and assigning a number just to the ATA-2 and not to a line pool. Still no help. Question: Should I be able to connect the Butt set to the ATA and type an extension such as 372 and it ring on his desk?? I would think not, but I can. Also, if I pick up any phone in the office I can dial their 3 digit extension without hitting the IC button...it didn't use to work that way. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

You will want to look at your prime line settings for each DN. If you are able to dial DN's without pressing IC, it means IC is the prime line. The same is probably true for the ATA's. The behavior you describe with your buttset is what is supposed to happen by default.

You must have been using hot dial feature on the previous system or prime line Pool ?.

As Bkrike Stated.

If you want to set this up use the hotline or prime line facility if you want it dial the external number with out using dial 9.

I have had to use the hot dial facility if I was using call routing on the system to access the line pool. This way the call will be prefixed with dial 9.

You could always set the modem properties on the PC to dial 9 in front of the number.
