I have installed a DTM (T1 card) in an expansion module of a BCM 50. I have also installed the exp port keycode and it is showing up under registered keycodes. All the lights on the card flash all the time. Just like after the system has been rebooted. All phones work, 4 digit dialing works. Just no DTM

I am in Houston and the BCM is in Norway so I cant see it but have somebody onsite as my pair of eyes

Did you program the DTM in Telephony Resources?

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Yes. And this is the second card we have tried. Even though I have only seen 1 go bad since the Enterprise Edge was released.

I have had problems in the past with expansion cabinets. One thing I do remember working was this. PLug in the main cabinet, give the cabinet 60 seconds and then plug in the expansion. Be sure that it is hooked up prior to powering on the expansion. Let both finish booting and then check the programming.

Check you have plugged the Expansion cable into the correct Expansion port on the BCM50 CCU..0,1,2,3
0= OAM
1= customer lan
2= expansion 1 if using 1 port keycode for expansion port
3= expansion 2 if you have 2 port keycodes for expansion.

If you only have a single keycode for for the expansion port then you MUST use lan port 2 for the first expansion and configure in Telephony resourses.

If you have 2 expansion port keycodes then you can use any port 2 or 3 for the expansions,

Yes I have. It is in expansion port 1 of the main cabinet and in the expansion port of the exp. cabinet

On which port did you connect your patch cord on the expansion side? It has to be connected to the port closest to the wall(the back one if you're facing the cabinet).

Dumb question. If the BCM is in Denmark do you have the correct DTM card? Not sure what protocol they use over there but you might need the E1 card and is the BCM set up for the correct country? Just a thought.

Dasheen, dip switched are in the default position

gberger, it is in the correct port

emillysdad, The DTM card was bought in Norway where the BCM is installed. E1 is the circuit type but the card is universal, same as here, same card. The BCM doesn't need to be setup per country. I dont think. We have 2 in Rio and there are no problems.

I always setup my BCMs to be North American, then I set it to the correct timezone. I have never set one up as in another country. Scared it might default the language to that country and I wont be able to program it...lol
Also, the BCM doesn't know what country it is in. The problem is that all lights on the card flash as if it is not recognized by the system.
Isn't it that once recognized by the system, all alarm lights go out and only the circuit light will flash until it sees the circuit??? That is what I have always experienced

If u have a known working MBM available, try putting it in the expansion cabinet. If it doesn't come up, that could help determine that u have a bad expansion cabinet.

Just a thought.

I hate to go over old ground but how many expansions keycodes do you have and how many expansions do you have connected.

If only 1, then the lan port you connect to is the one with "NUMBER 2" on it.

The third from the left. 0 1 (2) (3)
exp 1 exp 2

My "graphics" moved when this was submitted

(o) oam port

(1) customer lan

(2) "expansion 1"

(3) expansion 2

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is in the first exp port. The 3rd one from the left and in the exp module, it is in the closest one to the wall (back of the BCM)

More likely a bad Expansion Cabinet than DTM. You are using the Nortel provided Ethernet Expansion cable, correct?

Adversity is Opportunity

Yes, I've seen 3 bad Expansion Cabinets for every 1 bad DTM.

WOW, you have had bad luck. Or just installed a crap load of these things. I have installed about 20 BCM 50s and maybe 15 of those have had expansion cabinets. Never had one go bad. I have had only 1 DTM go bad since 2001. I will definitely get another one and check to see if that is it.
