Just had a BCM50 that wouldn't boot. Good power LED , but the Nortel symbol would never go from yellow to green. Couldn't access unit through OAM, no phones,no VM, no nothing.

I'm assuming I have a bad harddrive, since it's pretty much the only thing that can go wrong in these things. My question, Is there any lower level diagnostics that can be performed on these units, without accessing the unit through element manager?

You can take the BCM50 apart and check the hard drive connector. Sometimes in shipping this comes off. I had a system that I put in and after a while it started resetting and then wouldn't boot up. I believe that this was the problem.

Already checked that when I was onsite. The bad unit had been running for about a year with no problems. I've replaced the unit with a hot spare and the customer is working, but instead of just sending the unit to Nortel and hoping for the best, I'd like to be able to perform some diagnostics and get a more definitive reason for what went wrong.

On the front there is a pin hole were you can do a level 1 or 2 reset. You will need the docs because you will press the reset on the differant light patterns.

I tried the level 1 and 2 reset process and the thing still won't boot. Anyway I have my RMA and it's going back to Nortel. My next question is, assuming it's a bad disk, what do you think Nortel will charge me to fix it? Do you think they'll stand behind the product even though its been installed for over a year?
