Company with a BCM 50 using a PRI wants to get ride of paying for about 20 analog lines that are used for their 20 elevators. I was going to assign them their own DID number and connect them to an analog port but I was not sure what the total number of GASMs I could add to the system.

Why would you give a elevator phone a DID? In all my experiences you make them a ring down /hot ext. That's also a lot of analog ports on a 50, How many digital phones do they have?

Their central station that monitors each elevator requires that they have an individual telephone number for each cab that can be dialed back if needed by the central station of fire or police that is why they need a DID each. They are spending about 30.00 per cab totaling 7,200.00 per year just for lines. This is a dollars and sense issue. They have about 20 T7316es attached to the BCM now.

This also does not include the cost each year for the PRI.

You can get 4 analogue extension licences, but would still need 16 and some of these could be ATA's off some of the 12 digital ports, assuming that you already have the maximum amount of 12. I'm assuming that the PRI trunks will be on one DTM expansion port and this would still mean a 8 port GASM module and a second expansion port licence.

In other words, you might need

4 internal analogue extension port licences
1 expansion port licence
1 GASM 8 port analogue module
8 ATA's to convert digital to analogue

As stated above, you should consider a BCM 450 or an old BCM 400 that has 3 * 8 port analogue extensions.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

If you have a DSM32 in one of the expansion modules, you can license the digital sets on the main unit giving you a total of 44 digital ports. If you only have 20 sets now and only need 20 more, that would be enough. Of course, you'll still need 20 ATAs to connect the analog sets. If you convert your existing single lines to DIDs and port them to your PRI you will be able to do what you want. Would take a bit of programming to set everything up but I don't see why you couldn't do it.........except for the cost. And don't forget about the 4 analog ports on the main unit as well.

I have not had need of installing one recently but are Fibre Expansion Modules (FEM cards) still supported on the 50 & 450?
We had one on a 400 3.7 which would allow you to put on asm modules (saving the number of ata's). Just a thought.

You can't put a FEM on a bcm50!

But you will need to put the card into a 450 base unit only

If you already have 20 T7316's then there must already be a DSM32 in an expansion as there's only 12 digital stations on the core unit. That would leave you with about 24 available digital station ports. You could build an ATA farm, or you might look into using T7100's instead.

Based on your feedback and thank you all, I have decided to replace this BCM 50 with a MICS 7.0 with PRI and 3 ASM modules that I have in stock. This customer does not use most of the features that the BCM has to offer, they will not even notice the change.
