I have a BCM 50 R3 that is using VOIP trunks through a BCM 400 4.0 as its main outgoing call route to the PSTN. I have a second route defined for the public destination codes so that if the VOIP trunks are unavailable it should fall back to the POTS lines.

The problem is that it tries the VOIP trunks and if they are unavailable the call simply fails. It never seems to get to the second route.

Any help would be appreciated

Adam

You have to turn on the routing service and put in the times it is on in the schudule. Usually it is schudule 6. And when it uses the second route you will get the message and tone on the screen Expensive route.

I have it set in schedule 6 which is configured to be on 24/7 (start-23:59, stop-11:59 in scheduled services).

The first route and normal route are 002 which is the VOIP trunks and the second route is 003 which is the line pool of the analog lines.

Thanks again

You have to pick one of the schedules (I usually use schedule 6) and set it to run 24/7 by setting the start and stop times to the same value. Then select that schedule and make it automatic.

The routing tables now have to be set up opposite to what seems logical. In the Alternate Route table, put in your route for your voip trunks and set it up as you normally would. Don't put anything in the second or third routes. Then in the Destination Code table, under Normal Route, put in your route for fallback. Setting it this way also eliminates that Expensive Route BS. It only comes up if in fact, it sends the call to the Normal Route (I think)

This should route all your calls to the voip trunks first, then if they're not available (out of service or all busy) it will route them to your fallback trunks.

Just make sure the schedule is running.
