Does anyone Know off hand if you can connect a BCM 50 expansion cabinet thru a Data switch. Example: if I have a BCM 50 at building A and I have Fiber connection running to Building B can I connect a expansion cabinet with a DSM 16 thru a switch on both ends or is there a distance limitation?

I think the cable has to be a certain length. I know someone here had a problem a couple of months ago with the expansion and it turned out to be the cable.

Expansion cabinet length is only an issue on the BCM 1000/400's with the DS-256 expansion cabinet.

From what Nortel told me, as long as a BCM 50 expansion cabinet is within "ethernet specs", which is 100M, things should be fine. That being said, if extending via fiber, you should be OK. Just make sure that you dedicate a separate VLAN. You should be fine with a DSM module on the far end, but I'd be leary of running a T-1 in an expansion that wasn't directly connected to the main cabinet.

yes please let us know if you try it ... that will be a cheap way to a campus solution

Thanks guys, this is for an October install, but I will let you Know any further info I come up with.
