Hi All, I've got 2 BCM 50 units with same fault. When you power up the system, the power light goes to steady green, but status light stays yellow. I've tried reset, and I've even swapped the hdd drives, but no difference.
Thanking all in advance.
From reading the troubleshooting PDF file, it looks as if..
During BCM50 system startup or reboot, the system status LEDs move through a sequence of state changes.
If either the power LED or status LED is yellow, the system is initializing and is not ready for service.
Power LED = Flashing or solid green
Status LED = Flashing or solid yellow
These 2 conditions means that the BCM 50 System is initializing; but not ready for service.
Have you been able to ping any of the IP address's?
Hi, many thanks for reply. I tried level 2 reset, and leds went through sequence until both red, but after about ten minutes the green leds flash, then the system goes back to power led green(steady) and status led yellow(steady). I have noticed that the green leds above the 4 RJ ports flash every so often, as if system is going through another reset.I must apologise for my ignorance, because this system is new to me I havent as yet looked at it with laptop
Should that be next step?, and do you think It's fixable?
Thanks
Going from memory, I did a level 2 reset as I was "playing" with BCM 50 imaging. I didn't realise that doing this on a BCM 50 version 3 would cause it to revert back to version 1.
It took well over an hour to complete!.
I now know there is something that you can tick to only make it revert to "day 1" at release 3.
Anyway I've done a few FAQ's that you can find on this website on imaging etc.
Hello Oldestgeek. You are right. I found this out at Nortel's training centre!. I was "playing" with imaging when I was wondering why it took so long to do.
Hi Again, thank you all so much for taking time to answer my query and for your patience. To be honest, if I get one exchange working out of three, I'll be well pleased.(I have another one with both leds staying yellow on power up, and have been told the that the hard drive is faulty, although when I swap the hdd over the fault is the same. I'm going to have a look via laptop at these units, and I will keep you all posted as to the outcome.
Thanks again.
Gerry.
I once had a BCM 50 Version 1 system that had crashed. I replaced the hard disk to get it working again, but also used an Acronis image that I had already done and was able to rewrite the original hard disk.
By that time, I had discovered a "bad sector" error on the disk!. All was fine & I decided to write the FAQ for others to follow.
Hi (again), I tried to communicate via laptop element manager on the bcm50 switch, and nothing. when you put ip address in it just says detector"bcm detector cannot find device type" Is the system goosed?
Thanks in advance,
Gerry
No, I don't think that is the case just yet. Have you been able to connect a Digital phone terminal to see if you can access the system via "Feature" 9*8.
Can you ping the BCM IP address. Connect your lead to the port that has a small picture of a terminal. The default IP address is usually 10.10.11.1
Hi there, Can't ping any ip addresses, because the machine refuses to talk to laptop. It does connect, but there is no . Level 2 reset doesn't make any difference. Removed hdds and checked them on computer for bad sectors or any corruption, but both seemed fine.I borrowed a bcm400 to get element manager from it, but although it communicates ok, the default user and password dont work. Can I get round that?(it's not mine so I have to be careful not to do anything that may default it)
I think that if anything, I have a hardware problem on main board of the bcm50's. Would you agree, and do you think I can try anything further.
Many thanks
It might be worth trying to let us have the BCM 50 site ID information that is underneath the unit in a MAC address format. I should at least be able to see what version the system originally was. The only other thing now is to connect a terminal onto the system and follow my IP address guide FAQ.
Hi Guys, It's me again. I still have problems with bcm 50s.
One of them powers up, the yellow leds stay steady then go solid red, then both leds flash red. I bought a bcm 50 which worked fine, so I swapped the good hardrive into the faulty unit. Needless to say it made no difference, but here's my problem. When I put the hardrive back into the good unit, I now have the same fault with the leds. The unit does not communicate with the laptop at all. I need help so any suggestions would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.
