can the key codes be xfered from 1 bcm 50 to another if one is broken? bcm 50 Ver-1.00.2.04.g
expansion mod with 4X16 card not working and vendor does not know what's broken.if main BCM 50 needs to be replaced can key codes be moved to new BCM 50?

I've been told NO. If anyone knows differently, I would be interested. At issue is contingency planning. If I have a BCM50 unit on the shelf and my production system goes down. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRANSFER LICENSING BETWEEN THESE TWO UNITS !!!

There is a process to regenerate keycodes for a new system. You have to go through KRS and enter the old system ID and the new system ID. You also have to return the old system to Nortel within 60 days once the keycodes are regenerated, or they charge you for the keycodes.

Like Bostech says. The keycodes can be transferred from a failed unit to a replacement unit. You need to have access to KRS to do it though. If you don't, you will have to get a vendor (or someone who does have an account) to get your new license file.

If you have any trouble, let me know through here and I'll do it for you.

Thank-you Telcodog. I'll keep that in mind. The last time I called up AT&T (who we have our BCM400 under contract with), we were charged $250 for access to KRS?

You can regenerate keycodes. It sounds to me that you need to get yourself a good vendor that is Nortel certified that has access to KRS.

It's worth finding out if it's the hard disk that has failed. The correct process is to change out the BCM 50 units as Nortel don't want you to open up the unit. If you have access to another BCM 50 unit running version 1 or 2, then you can create an image and see if you can put this image onto the same or another 40 (or more) SATA hard disk.

The only other thing that you would require is the site ID lic file.

This is a cheaper method and it works fine. Although you have version 1, a version 2 imaged BCM 50 system can be downgraded back to version 1 by doing a level 2 system reset.

If you are planning to rebuild the system from scratch, then leave it at version 2 because the keycodes will work. It's only at version 3 that they will fail.

I've done a few FAQ's on this on this forum.

All the best
