I have a bcm50 release 3 that has t7316e sets and a valcom single zone page unit for external speakers. The issue is the customer just had to replace one of his sets and the replacement now branded with the avaya logo and having a release date of 12-18-2012 rel 3 works differently when using the page button for external page which is programmed as f62. They have music playing on the overhaed speakers and as soon as you press the page button the music cuts off and you can page. With the new set when you press the page button the music doesnt cutoff until you start talking into the phone. Not sure if this is some new enhancement with the firmware on the newer phone or what.Wondering if anyone else has run into this. Not a big issue but it works differently than the other 12 phones in the office.

Make sure the button is programed the same on the working and non working set. There isn't a way the valcom can know what type of set the page is coming from, it just knows to turn off music when the page port goes live.

It is programmed the same exact way , issue follows with the phone no matter what extension I plug the set into. When I plug another older release t7316e in it works like it always did. The new phone is 7316e rel 3 12-18-2012. Not sure if it is a firmware isuue on set or if they changed something that until you start talking it doesnt actually give and indication to the valcom you are off hook trying to page. Strange issue. All other t7316e sets as soon as you press page which is programmed as F62 external page cuts off the music on paging system immediately and you can page where as the new set only cuts off the music after you start speaking.

You might be onto something here.

On the older T7316(e) and any Tseries set and newer model M7xxx sets made by Nortel, you'd hear a "pop" when you press the page button with Feature 62 or Feature 630. I believe the pop was intentional to make paging systems with voice or sound activiated paging systems stop the music when a page was about to begin.

I am assuming that when you press the Page button on the Avaya set, you don't get the "pop" or "click"?

Let me know of your results....

No noise , they have music playing when the speakers aren't being used for paging and the music keeps playing even after you press the page button. Only after you start speaking into the handset does it cut the music off. The concern is you may miss the beginning of the page that way.

But JGreen, do the Nortel branded handsets make the "pop" when you press the PAGE key?

Do it a few times and listen to speaker and tell me if you hear the "click"?? The click is similar to a CO disconnect or switchook flash noise. That click makes the music stop on sound activated paging units.

Try something else for me please.

Go to an older Nortel Tseries set, dial Feature 60, then select the "SPKR" softkey and let me know if that makes the music stop or if you have to begin speaking to make the music stop.

When you dial Feature 60 and then select the "SPRK" softkey, you shouldn't get the pop. I've tested this a hundred times with my own BCM at home.

It happens in hundreds of our Walgreen stores with Tseries phones as well.

Avaya has made changes to their branded sets. Just try replacing one for a user that has an older style headset......it won't work!

Norstarboy is correct.......anything Avaya touches turns into "you know what"!

Checked on a nor star branded phone and if you do a feature60 and choose speaker it doesn't cut out the music either.

See it's something with the "Click" on the Phone!

You could always tell your party to press the page button first on the Avaya set, then pick up....the handsfree will quickly kick on give a crack as you pick up the phone...that will most definitely stop the music.

Avaya must have eliminated the "Pop" noise when you press the Page button or dial Feature 62.

Try to second option I gave you and let me know if it works.

I never thought that small thing I noticed in the past would someday help solve a problem!
