Having problem with a bcm 50 rls 1 that was upgraded to release 3 .2 lines in the core unit a gatm 8 in expansion 1 and a dsm 16 in expansion 2 .all have 7316 sets and are expieriencing echo/clicking noise only when they are speaking and is ok when far end talks and intercom to intercom calls . It happens on lines in the core and expansion.Any suggestions.

Does it happen on all lines?
If you pull the line out of the phone system and go off hook do you hear the noise without the line present?

Did the system have the chance to perform the line optimization? (Tuning).

To do it, just reboot the system and once its up, wait at least 5 minutes before allowing anyone to use any of the lines. If you listen closely, when it's finished, you can hear a "click" sound from the main unit. Once that's done, you can mess with the impedance and loop length settings if the problem persists. After each change, you will need to re-tune by rebooting.

This is a common problem after upgrading from release 1.

emillysdad, I have tried to find out exactly what the line tuning is and have never got a good answer. It seems you know about it, can you explain it more?

Rather than my explaining it, there is a very good document put out by Nortel (can't say that too often) called "Managing Echo on BCM and SRG Installations" . You can get if directly from the website. I believe the current revision was put out in June of this year. It explains it all very well and gives very good instructions on how to use it.

Let me know if you have trouble getting it.

Best luck I've had so far is to set all lines to 900 ohm impedance and Med loss package. That's eliminated most of my echoing problems.
